On September 21, 2023, Masuda Funai held its Annual Employment Seminar at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Arlington Heights, IL. This educational event drew the participation of 97 professionals eager to gain insights into critical topics. Expert speakers and industry leaders covered a range of crucial topics, providing valuable insights to help attendees navigate employment law and modern workplace challenges.

The seminar began with presentations focusing on key federal and state employment law updates. These updates were discussed in the context of their impact on employers nationwide and included insights into new laws in several states. Preparations for anticipated changes in 2024 were also addressed. Speakers for this panel included Kevin Borozan and John Stanis, who provided in-depth analysis and actionable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of employment law.

The next segment of the event centered on post-pandemic workplace issues. Expert speakers discussed a variety of topics, including talent recruitment and retention, remote work strategies, mental health considerations, and the development of inclusive company cultures. The panel featured Masuda Funai’s Principals, Naureen Amjad & Frank Del Barto, along with guest speakers, George Vasilakopoulos, Controller at SMW Autoblok, Dana Dixon, Director of Human Resources at Spraying Systems Co, and Debbie Diaz, Human Resources Director at Tsurumi (America), Inc.

The final presentation explored the intersection of employment and immigration law. It covered critical subjects such as I-9 compliance for expatriate employees, considerations for 401(k) plans for expatriates, managing discrepancies related to Social Security numbers, remote I-9 verification, and the process for withdrawing job offers when an individual's Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is expiring soon. This session featured insights from speakers Nancy Sasamoto, Frank Del Barto, Eldon Kakuda, and Hirokazu Kishinami.
