CBP TO BEGIN CAPTURING BIOMETRICS FOR FOREIGNERS EXITING THE UNITED STATES

The Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced that it will implement a pilot program to capture the biometric data of foreigners exiting the United States. CBP will utilize handheld biometric devices at certain airports beginning with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This test program will run through June 2016 and will allow CBP to design a permanent biometric exit program. This data includes fingerprints and scans of passports that are already captured by CBP upon a foreigner's entry into the United States. CBP officers will meet foreign passengers at loading bridges of certain flights. After the implementation at Atlanta International Airport, CBP will expand this initiative to airports in the following cities: Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Newark, New York, San Francisco and Washington-Dulles. Currently, CBP does not capture biometric data of foreigners exiting the United States.
