On Tuesday, October 14, 2020, John Stanis, Principal of Masuda Funai, presented at a virtual Northwest Human Resources Council (NHRC) meeting as part of the NHRC’s Personal Development Event (PDE). Normally an in-person meeting, this PDE was held virtually due to COVID-19. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic complications have impacted employees and management in numerous ways. John Stanis presented an update of the latest EEOC and DOL guidances and court cases, and provided practical advice for the new world of managing employees, remotely and in the office, during the pandemic. Topics covered included employee testing, paid sick leave, and expanded FMLA time, employee personal and work travel, working from home, and related school and parenting issues. John Stanis also discussed recent developments and legal issues companies face when their employees' social media activities result in complaints to and demands on the company.
In 1958 a group of personnel professionals, representing local, private and public organizations, began to meet for the purpose of sharing information and discussing mutual human resource issues. As the group grew in numbers and recognized the value of networking, they established the name...Northwest Industrial Council. As of July, 1990, this name was changed to the Northwest Human Resources Council. Today the membership is comprised of approximately 250+ Human Resource professionals. The NHRC is a chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The NHRC is proud to be a part of the exciting growth and development of industry and commerce in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
