"Smart" Form I-9 Released for Public Comment
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a new "smart" Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, that includes new features like drop down menus and limitations on certain fields with the goal of making the Form I-9 completion process easier for employers and employees. The "smart" form is not an electronic form, therefore, employers (that do not already use an electronic version of Form I-9) will still have to print out the form. The proposed new form features limited characters for certain fields, such as dates and social security number, drop-down lists for acceptable documents, etc. The comment period ends on January 25, 2016.
