Murray has served as a tax attorney and partner with two major Chicago law firms, in-house tax counsel for several Fortune 100 life sciences companies, tax director of a well-known personal care corporation, and an executive director with a Big Four accounting firm. In the course of his work, he has traveled throughout Europe and Asia, working extensively with non-U.S. parent and subsidiary corporations, and frequently presented at international tax conferences.
His approach to client service is first to understand the relevant manufacturing or professional service industry—the competitive landscape, the research, product and process design, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and sales processes. Then, he asks about how the client sees itself within its industry, its processes, and its goals and objectives. These discussions, conducted in an efficient, concise, and frank manner, enable both the client and Murray to develop the appropriate strategies that will optimize the client’s tax position and that will be sustainable on examination.
