Mel Gaddy is an experienced business litigator who has represented national and international clients hailing from a broad range of industries, including the pharmaceutical, biotech, manufacturing, consumer product, construction and insurance sectors. Clients value Mel’s ability and desire to help them navigate legal uncertainty and deliver practical solutions, in view of their business goals and broader strategic objectives.

Mel represents business and other private clients at every stage of litigation, from pre-suit investigation through pleadings, fact and expert discovery, dispositive motion practice, trial and appeal. In addition to protecting his clients’ rights in state and federal courts, Mel works closely with clients in a business advisory capacity, for the purposes of identifying, assessing and managing legal risk.

Likewise, Mel has represented a range of clients in complex alternative dispute resolution proceedings, particularly mediations. Moreover, Mel has represented clients in administrative proceedings in tandem with actual or threatened litigation. 

Prior to joining Masuda Funai, Mel was an associate at a Chambers-ranked, full service intellectual property law firm in Chicago, where he focused on patent infringement litigation and related commercial disputes. 

During law school, Mel earned Dean’s List academic honors for multiple semesters and held editorial positions on Loyola University of Chicago’s law review and health law journal. Outside of his legal practice, Mel enjoys coaching high school speech and debate student competitors.
