Masuda Funai Promotes Two Attorneys

Masuda, Funai, Eifert & Mitchell, Ltd. is pleased to announce the advancement of Asa W. Markel to Income Principal and Benjamin F. Gould to Equity Principal effective January 1, 2016.

According to Thomas P. McMenamin, President of Masuda Funai, "Asa's legal expertise and representation of our West Coast clients earned him this promotion." He further stated, "Ben's extensive corporate and finance experience, strong leadership skills and commitment resulted in his election as a shareholder by the Firm's Board of Directors."

Based in the firm's Los Angeles office, Mr. Markel joined Masuda Funai in 2012 and is a member of the Litigation and Distribution and Sales Practice Groups. He has more than 10 years' experience in civil litigation, including business disputes, professional liability, admiralty and transportation, construction, and employment. Mr. Markel was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers-Rising Stars for Southern California Business Litigation in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. He is also admitted to practice law as a solicitor before the courts of England and Wales and is a non-practicing member of the Law Society of England and Wales. He earned his J.D. from the University of Arizona Rogers College of Law and his B.A. from Northern Arizona University.

Mr. Gould joined Masuda Funai's Chicago office in 2010 and was promoted to Income Principal in 2013. He currently serves as Chair of the firm's Business Group. Mr. Gould's practice is focused on representing clients and financial institutions in a wide variety of transactions, corporate reorganizations, restructurings and financing matters. He has been selected as an Illinois Rising Star every year since 2012, and he is a member of the Chicago Council of Global Affairs, the American Bar Association and the Association for Corporate Growth. Mr. Gould received his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and attended the University of Kansas as an undergraduate, where he received a B.S. in business administration.
