Masuda Funai Principals attend High Speed Rail Events

Shinya Yamamoto, a Principal in the firm's Real Estate practice group, was one of 200 attendees at a recent high speed rail summit in Washington D.C. Keynote speakers included: U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood; Congressman James L. Oberstar; Congressman John L. Mica; House, Congresswoman Corrine Brown; Secretary Eugene A. Conti, North Carolina Department of Transportation; and Arthur L. Guzzetti, Vice-President-Policy, American Public Transportation Association. The event, which was sponsored by the Japanese International Transport Institute, included key decision makers and facilitators of high speed rail, along with Japanese rail manufacturers. The speakers noted the importance of the high speed rail concept as an alternative form of transportation, as well as the benefits which may be derived from suppliers manufacturing and producing their products in the U.S.

Dayne Kono, President and Managing Director, attended the 2010 annual meeting of the Midwest High Speed Rail Association on March 27. James McCommons, author of "Waiting on the Train," was the event's keynote speaker. Other presenters included: Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle; Joseph P. Clary and Todd Poptish of the Illinois Department of Transportation; Guillaume Gernin, SNCF- French National Railway; Dan Johnson-Weinberger, Progressive Public Affairs; Laurent Pernot, Platform Public Affairs; Senator Martin Sandoval, Chair – Illinois Senate Transportation Committee; Gene Germaine, Director of Business Development, and William Luebke, Director of Advanced Engineering, Kustom Seating. The Midwest High Speed Rail Association is a Chicago-based non-profit organization advocating for high speed rail linking the entire Midwest.
