Monika Oyama is a member of the Business, Distribution and Sales, and Intellectual Property practice groups of Masuda Funai.

Her corporate practice focuses on entity selection and formation, mergers, acquisitions, financing, and restructurings. With regards to intellectual property matters, Ms. Oyama regularly represents clients on trademark prosecution and maintenance and various IP transactions, including IP assignments and licensing, software and technology development arrangements, and research and testing arrangements. She also counsels clients on IP and trade secret protection, privacy policy issues, sales representative and distributorship relationships, and manufacture and supply arrangements.

A native Japanese speaker with understanding of both the U.S. and Japan business cultures, Ms. Oyama is a strong member of Masuda Funai's Japan practice, supporting Japanese companies as they enter, grow, and strive in the U.S. market.

Ms. Oyama joined the firm in 2013, and is admitted to practice law in Illinois.

  • Represented clients in asset and stock purchases and sales in various industries, including software, clothing brands, injection molding, healthcare, automotive and industrial products. 

  • Represented clients on intra-company and inter-company multi-million dollar financing arrangements.

  • Counseled and advised the U.S. subsidiary of a leading global supplier of industrial power products on the restructuring of their business.
